How do I dump the Ingres error log?

Use the following instructions to remove your Ingres log on a Unix system:

    1. Log in to the machine that hosts Ingres.
    2. su to the Ingres user.
    3. Execute the Ingres .profile.a
    4. shutdown the Ingres server.
    5. Backup the log file, as desired.
    6. Execute the following command: rm $II_SYSTEM/ingres/files/errlog.log
    7. Restart the Ingres server; it will recreate the log itself.

Use the following instructions to remove all but n number of lines in the log:

    1. Log in to the machine that hosts Ingres.
    2. su to the Ingres user.
    3. Execute the Ingres .profile.
    4. shutdown the Ingres server.
    5. Backup the log file, as desired.
    6. Execute the following commands; replace 100 with the desired number of lines:

    cd $II_SYSTEM/ingres/files
    tail -100 errlog.log > /tmp/errlog.log
    rm errlog.log
    mv /tmp/errlog.log .
    chown ingres errlog.log
    chgrp ingres errlog.log
    chmod u+rw,g+r,o+r errlog.log
